3 Easy Ways To Maintain Your Excavator

If you own an excavator and use it for your business, like if you are a private landscaper, you want it to look good and to last as long as possible. This is because you don't want to spend the extra money on replacing the excavator if it breaks down quickly. There are three easy ways to make sure that your excavator lasts as long as possible.

1. Check Fluid Levels Regularly

One important way to make sure that your excavator runs without any problems is to check that the fluid levels are where they should be. These fluids involve coolant, engine oil, and fluid for the hydraulic system. If any of these levels are too low, they will put more stress on the engine and cause the excavator to need to be repaired or replaced. You should check the fluid levels of your excavator at least once every two weeks if you are using it on a semi-regular basis, or once every three or four days. If you are not using the excavator regularly, such as during the winter, checking it before you use it is sufficient. If you find yourself using the excavator every day, consider checking once a week. Refill any of the fluids to the correct level if needed.

2. Check Airflow

Consult your users guide to see where the coolant system gets its air and where it releases the air. Check these to make sure that they are not blocked or suffering from any leaks. This is important because if your coolant system is not working properly, your engine could overheat and suffer permanent damage. By making sure that air is flowing smoothly through your coolant system, you can greatly reduce the chances that your engine will overheat. If you find a problem, make sure you take your excavator in to have it inspected as soon as possible.

3. Track Tension

The last thing that you should look at is the tension on the tracks at the bottom of your excavator. If the tension of the track is too loose, it is much more likely to slip off while it is being used, potentially causing damage to the excavator. In order to avoid this, if you see a loose track, replace it immediately. Tracks can be purchased in bulk from many automotive retailers.
